The German publisher and educational company Klett Group acquires 100% of the shares in ThiemeMeulenhoff, the innovative publisher and one of the largest producers of digital learning resources and schoolbooks in The Netherlands.

Klett is the leading educational company in Europe. The Group’s portfolio encompasses everything from traditional textbooks to modern interactive learning tools; from literature and information for professionals in education to the direct offering of education. Klett is mainly active in German speaking countries. Apart from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Klett is also active in France, Spain, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece, Brazil and China. The family-owned business has more than 3600 employees and generates a turnover of over €500 mln.

Since it was founded 225 years ago, ThiemeMeulenhoff has evolved from an educational publishing house into a company designing teaching and learning process. ThiemeMeulenhoff is active in most segments of the Dutch education market: primary education, secondary education, vocational education and higher professional education. ThiemeMeulenhoff was owned by ING Corporate Investments since 2013, when all shares were obtained from media company NDC-VBK.

Catalyst has initiated this transaction. The acquisition fits perfectly in Kletts’ strategy in building a leading position on the Netherlands’ educational publishing market and to further extend its presence in important European markets.

Catalyst acted as exclusive financial advisor to Klett, advised in the negotiations and coordinated the transaction process.
