As of 1 november 2018, GeenStijl is sold bij Telegraaf Media Groep (TMG) to the editors in chief of the popular Dutch website. In 2017, TMG announced that GeenStijl no longer fitted within the envisaged future development of the company and that they were looking for a new owner. These owners were found in the editors in chief of the blog.
Since it was founded in 2003, GeenStijl has grown to be one of the most popular weblogs and most visited news sites in the Netherlands. At GeenStijl, news facts, shameful revelations and journalistic research alternate with light-hearted subjects and goofy nonsense. The website has over 230,000 visitors on a daily basis and is well known among its target group of higher educated males in the age category of 25 – 54 years.
TMG is one of the largest Dutch media companies, with strong brands like De Telegraaf, DFT, Telesport, Metro, Autovisie, and Privé. Shareholder of TMG is Belgian media company Mediahuis.
Catalyst Advisors acted as advisor of TMG. Catalyst supported the board of TMG in evaluating the different alternatives for divestment. In addition, Catalyst coordinated the transaction process, specifically the negotiations with the editorial team of GeenStijl.
